March 14 – 18: St Patricks Day Festival and Parade
Yes, you have probably already heard about it: St Patrick’s Day. The most popular Irish holiday takes place each year on March 17th, the Death Date of Saint Patrick, Ireland’s patron saint. He was a missionary who is believed to have brought Christianity to Ireland. For four days there’s a lot of traditional Irish music and dancing around Dublin and of course the world-famous parade on the 17th. If you are attending, make sure to sport something green, shamrocks or other traditional Irish gear.
May 22: Europa League Soccer Final – Aviva Stadium
One of the biggest sport events is coming to Dublin! Next to the Champions League, the Europa League sets the best European football teams up to play against each other. We don’t know yet who will be this year’s finalists, but we know that this game will be a spectacle with fans coming to Dublin from all over Europe.
May 17 – 26: International Literature Festival – Merrion Square Park
Ireland is a country of literature with many famous authors coming from the island. That is why literature is celebrated each year during the 9 days long International Literature Festival. Authors from many genres and many countries of the world come to Merrion Square Park in Dublin to talk and teach about their art. If you’re lucky, you might even get to see some of Hollywoods elite: In 2023, actor and cookbook-author Stanley Tucci attended the festival.
June 1 – 2: Forbidden Fruit Festival
Forbidden Fruit is Dublin’s first and longest-running city-center festival and takes place for the eleventh time on the scenic grounds of the Irish Museum of Modern Art this year. With its vibrant atmosphere, delicious food offerings, and an array of visual arts, the Forbidden Fruit Festival promises a weekend of unforgettable entertainment for music enthusiasts and festival-goers alike. Biggest star on the line-up so far is Nelly Furtado.
June 16: Bloomsday
James Joyce is one of the most prominent Irish writers. Born near Dublin, many of his books revolve around the city. You can find a statue of the author in Earl Street and lots of information about his work as well as one of the original copies of the famous “Ulysses” in the Museum of Literature Ireland. The whole plot of Ulysses takes place on one day, June 16, and follows the main character Leopold Bloom – which is why the Dubliners now celebrate “Bloomsday” on said date. On Bloomsday, people dress up like in 1904, when Ulysses takes place, they read from the book or start pub crawls. Lots of activities also take place at the James Joyce Centre.
June 28 – 30: Taylor Swift Concerts – Aviva Stadium
There’s probably no artist right now whose tickets are sold out faster than Taylor Swift’s. That is why the popstar will be playing in Dublin’s Aviva Stadium three nights in a row. Of course, the tickets have been sold out in minutes, but because Taylor Swift Fans have been listening to her concerts even outside of the venues, we thought we ought to let you know – maybe you want to join.
