When planning a trip to Dublin, you’ll pretty soon hear about Temple Bar. The district is one of the most famous of the Irish capital and known for its nightlife and many pubs, including of course, The Temple Bar. However, many Dubliners might advise you against visiting the district for a night out. Why, you say? In this post, we’ll let you know about the pros and cons of visiting and answer the question: “Is Temple Bar worth it?”
Great atmosphere and live music
One point is always true for Temple Bar: You’ll get great and buzzing energy whenever you go. In the whole district, the pubs fill up from late afternoon and most of them offer live music for the whole evening. Most of the time, it’s a mix of a few traditional Irish songs and many more songs that people from all over the world can sing along to. And this also brings us to the next aspect, because the main group of people visiting Temple Bar is not Irish.
Many tourists and less local culture
Most of the people visiting Temple Bar are not originally from Dublin or Ireland. Especially on the weekends, many tourists from all over the world and also many stag and hen parties visit the district’s pubs. They often bring a great and positive atmosphere with them, as they’re on vacation, it can however get a bit crowded and of course, the Dublin experience in Temple Bar is a bit less authentic. If you want to listen to more typically Irish live music and want to go where the real Dubliners go, there are many other traditional Irish pubs all around the city. You can find a few good examples in our blog post about unique Irish pubs in Dublin.
Potential for overpricing
Bar owners in Temple Bar know that people are coming for the experience, the popularity of the district, and the atmosphere, not for cheap beer. That is why you often pay more for your drinks in Temple Bar than in other areas in Dublin. Sometimes, a single pint can even cost up to 4 euros more than a pint in a pub only a few streets further outside of the city center. However, you also have to take into account that the money you spend here also gets you professional live music and a party atmosphere without having to pay an entry fee.
A Must-See for visitors
Temple Bar certainly is an experience and definitely offers you a great night out with good vibes and good music. Also, seeing The Temple Bar or spending an evening there is perhaps one of the must-dos in Dublin. And it can also be fun to meet, exchange with and celebrate with fellow travelers from other countries.
As you can see, there are pros and cons to visiting Temple Bar. While it might not be the best place to go, if you’re on a budget or looking for an authentic Irish experience and traditional live music, it also offers a lot of fun. Good vibes, lively crowds and live music everywhere can make a night in Temple Bar unforgettable!
