Where to find the best live music venues in Dublin

by | Mar 24, 2025 | Things to do in a day in Dublin

Dublin is a city full of music – from the buskers on Grafton Street and singers in traditional Irish pubs to some of the best live gigs in the country. Where you can find those? In this blog, we’ll let you know about the best live music venues in Dublin where you can experience great artists and great vibes. Most of them also have been or are currently nominated for the IMRO Live Music Venue of the Year Awards.

Whelan’s

Whelan’s on Wexford Street is one of the most legendary venues in Dublin. Here, international artists like Jeff Buckley, the Arctic Monkeys and Damien Rice have performed. It also has been a location in the film P.S. I Love You. Even though here, it is supposed to be in Wicklow.

The venue is however not only a pub. It also offers several other spaces for parties, comedy performers and live music. And parts of it can also be rented for private events.

The Grand Social

This venue located right next to the Liffey and Ha’penny Bridge offers something for everyone. From the relaxed pub on the ground floor, to two other floors and a rooftop beer garden with a retractable roof and its own cocktail bar. Here, you can hang out with your friends, enjoy life DJs and musicians and dance the night away during one of the many themed parties. Highlight of the venue is the unique performance space on the second floor of the building. It is designed to look like a colourful circus tent from the inside. Here, most of the live gigs in the Grand Social take place. Checkout their great lineup – which consists to a great part of indie bands – online on the Grand Social website.

3Olympia Theatre

This venue certainly offers a unique visual and acoustic atmosphere and is perfect to experience live music in a theatrical setting. The Olympia Theatre on Dame Street right in the city center is a stunning venue with a rich history, represented through its beautiful Victorian interior: Originally, it was built as “Dan Lowrey’s Star of Erin Music Hall” in 1897.

In Olympia Theatre you can enjoy theatre and comedy performances as well as live gigs from international artists. This year, there will be Loreen, Mark Ambor, Finneas and Anastacia, to only mention a few.

The Button Factory

The Button Factory hosts live gigs since 1996. Mostly out of the genres rock, electronic or hip.hop. And great ones at that, as there have already been bands like Kings of Leon, Snow Patrol, Muse or Gossip entertaining the crowds. In the main venue about 550 people can enjoy live music, shows, DJ sets or even attend conferences or corporate events. The Crowbar and the Crowbar Terrace in the venue offer a more intimate and relaxed atmosphere. Located right in Temple Bar, The Button Factory is easily accessible with any public transport in Dublin.

The Workman’s Club

If you’re looking for a mix of alternative and underground music, The Workman’s Club is the place to be. With its retro decor and laid-back vibe, the establishment hosts everything from book launches and comedy shows to indie rock gigs and electronic DJ sets. Two of its venues are specifically set up for live performances. The Main Room hosts up to 300 people, the the Workman’s Cellar up to 170. And of you’re rather looking for a party, don’t worry, The Workman’s Club hosts those, too.
