Discover the best locations for a cold day in Dublin

As it is still chilly and windy in Dublin, you probably don’t want to spend your whole day sightseeing outside. That’s why we collected some of the best cafés and tea rooms along our city sightseeing bus route where you can grab a hot drink to get warm, as well as cozy but fascinating indoor activities for sightseeing and fun activities for your chill winter evenings in Dublin. Hop on one of our warm buses and enjoy the cozy side of Irelands capital.

Cozy cafés in Dublin

1. Phoenix Park Tea Rooms (Stop 12)

Walking through Phoenix Park is beautiful at any time of the year. Currently, however, it can get a bit chilly after some time. The Phoenix Park Tea Rooms are the perfect place to stop for a hot coffee or tea and a slice of cake. Enjoy the warmth and coziness of the Tea Rooms while embracing the view of the park outside.

2. Old Music Shop Restaurant (Stop 17)

Step into the Old Music Shop Restaurant, where Dublin’s past meets the present. This gem, located in the stylish and spacious Georgian dining rooms of the Castle Hotel, invites you to try coffee creations as well as the traditional afternoon tea – including a selection of finger sandwiches, delicious buttermilk scones, dainty desserts and fresh fruits.

Afternoon Tea in Dublin

3. Queen of Tarts (Stop 2/ 3)

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Temple Bar, Queen of Tarts stands as a haven for those with a sweet tooth and a penchant for charming surroundings. This delightful café, with its quaint decor and irresistible aroma of freshly baked pastries, provides refuge from the cold outside. As you settle into its cozy ambiance, the menu invites you to try an array of sweet treats, accompanied by a steaming cup of tea or coffee.

To continue your tour on the bus, feel free to grab a second serving of your favorite coffee or tea to go.

Indoor activities in Dublin: Museums and gaming fun

1. EPIC Museum (Stop 20)

Certainly one of the best Dublin indoor activities! Explore the history of Irish Emigration in the EPIC museum, located right next to the river Liffey. This award-winning museum is an informative and fun experience for everyone, not only in winter, but all year round. Lots of interactive parts let you and your family learn and about the many people who emigrated from Ireland as well as the reasons behind it. With self-guided tours you can take as much time as you want.

2. Dublinia (Stop 3)

This immersive museum takes you back into Dublin’s medieval and Viking past. Here, you and your family not only get interesting facts about the city’s history, you can also find out about the Viking lifestyle yourself: Try on Viking clothes and stroll down a noisy street. Visit a smoky and cramped Viking house and learn about the myths and mysteries surrounding the Vikings and their legacy. The museum located right next to Christ Church Cathedral is a perfect family destination for cold Dublin sightseeing days.

3. Token (Stop 14/ 15)

Not necessarily cozy, but definitely warm and fun is this unusual pub, where you can eat and drink – and play old arcade games. From Pacman, Dancing Stage Euro Mix and Point Blank to Pinball, there are 40 Pinball and Arcade machines to choose from! Token’s food menu includes lots of omni, vegetarian and vegan food, including Burgers, Tacos or chicken dishes or cakes and churros for dessert. Reignite your love for retro arcade games and enjoy delicious food and drinks with your friends!

Live music, comedy or plays for cold winter evenings

1. Gaiety or Abbey Theatre (Stop 30/ 19)

If you want to see talented actors and fascinating plays, you don’t have to travel to New York’s Broadway. Dublin is a city full of creatives and has quite a few renowned theatres, such as the Gaiety or Abbey Theatre. From classics like Shakespeare’s plays to new interpretations, there’s something for everyone. And if you’re spontaneous, sometimes you’ll even get tickets at the box office for the same night.

2. Comedy Shows (Stop 2/ 19)

Dublin has a thriving stand-up scene and the pandemic even increased the number of clubs dedicated to comedy. If you feel like it, you could visit a comedy show on every night of the week. In any case, a comedy show is a great and fun way to spend your evening when it’s still cold outside. Some of the best shows, including upcoming and established comedians alike, can be seen in The International, a pub in Dublin’s inner city. They are the hosts to the Comedy Cellar as well as the International Comedy Club. The Laughter Lounge on Eden Quay is solely dedicated to comedy shows.

3. The Irish Whiskey Museum (Stop 1)

The Irish Whiskey Museum is a perfect destination for any weather, but even more so, when it’s cold and windy outside! And on the weekends, there’s even more to hear than interesting facts and funny backstories about whiskey: On most Fridays, everyone who is interested, is able to show his talents during the open mic night, may it be comedy, singing or playing an instrument. On Saturdays, the professionals take over, as there’s always talented singers or bands playing their songs live. Listen to them as you enjoy one of the many sorts of whiskey or a delicious cocktail!
